General Range Protocols
As a member, Day Pass user or range-booking organization (match organizer or enforcement/security company) we want you or your group to enjoy and benefit from the use of the LFG Shooting Range.
To ensure safety and the long-term viability of the LFG Shooting Range, we require you to read and follow the protocols and guidelines outlined in this publication.
These protocols and guidelines are supplementary to, and do not replace, the Range Safety Rules which are published in the Range Operating Instructions and appear on the signs at the entrance to each individual range.
First we will review some general and universal provisions, which apply to the entire range, and then we will review specific range provisions. In essence we have made the following commitment to the residents of Lethbridge:
Every bullet fired at the LFG Range will be contained within the LFG Range so long as;
- The bullet was fired from an approved firearm
- The firearm was discharged on the range designed for that firearm
- The firearm was discharged at an approved target
- The firearm user was following documented Range Safety Protocols
If a bullet fired from the LFG Range is ever proven to have left the range we will fully cooperate with the police and charge to the full extent of the law any individual or group who has breached one or more the provisions listed above.
Any group booking the range must identify in advance and in writing the positions they will be shooting from, the number of participants, the types of firearms being used and any specific details, which may be contrary to the Range Safety Protocols and/or Range Safety Rules.
The Range Operating Instructions already define the approved bullets, approved firearms, allowable firearms on each individual range and approved targets.
The Range Safety Protocols in general terms are;
- In addition to muzzle direction always being down range, the muzzle must always be kept relatively parallel to the ground (not applicable to range 1or#6).
- All materials capable of producing ricochets on the range (steel target stands, steel reactive targets, bowling pins, etc) must be contained within a wooden enclosure.
- All posted targets must be posted on the available target boards only (not on the posts or the wooden enclosures housing the steel targets).
- Wear eye and ear protection.
- Use approved targets only (NOT rocks, NOT golf balls, NOT television sets, NOT doors, NOT buildings, etc).
- Always pick up your live rounds and take them away with you.
Range 2 (Big-Bore Range) Safety Protocols
- All firing must be done from within the covered firing line. This is a condition of our arrangement with the City and is meant to reduce the noise impact for City residents.
